The Ruiners – Motorcycle Lazarus and The Masters of Fire and Love,

December 18th, 2013 by admin

I received the new Ruiners record a couple of weeks ago, Motorcycle Lazarus and The Masters of Fire and Love.

You may know if you ever come to this website I am a huge Ruiners fan already.

I will do a more lengthy review when I get the time but I wanted to say that it kicks major ass. Harder then recent releases it sounds GREAT. Get a copy before they are all gone. This is the type of record you plop on the turntable, turn the volume to 11 and let the music envelope your senses. Your senses will thank you.

Mystery Song Identified!

November 4th, 2013 by admin

UPDATE: 11/7/13

After numerous attempts for help with friends to identify this song I HAVE FUCKING FOUND IT!!.

cirithungol-logo003

The band is called Cirith Ungol. The song is called “I’m Alive and was featured on their album “Front and Fire” from 1980. They were on some Metal Blade comps (must be where I had it originally).

More on the band later. Some members still around in other bands.

I shiver when I remember
The things that I have seen
I know the light, I know the Night
I have walked with things unseen
I have been a king invincible
I’ve been the poorest of the poor
I’ve pulled the mighty from their thrones
And laughed at Death’s own door
I roamed the world in search of life
Death followed in my wake
I searched for truth, I want the truth
And learned more than I could take
I’ve walked the roads of mystery
And it’s aged me much too soon
I’ve paid the piper and I’ve paid him well
But he still calls the tune
I shiver when I remember
The shadow of the past
The lonely ways, the lonely days
When every breath might be my last
I lost my heart, I lost my soul
By every hand betrayed
But I’ve still got strength, I’ve still got life
And that will never change
‘Cause I’m aliv

Mystery Song / I’m Alive? by who?

Anyone into metal, please listen to this song and tell me who sings it. I found it on an old cassette I made in 1994. I had it titled “I’m Alive” but am not sure that is it. Mostly I want to know who sings it.

Lou Reed – This Magic Moment

October 28th, 2013 by admin

This magic moment
So different and so new
Was like any other
Until I met you
And then it happened
It took me by suprise
I knew that you felt it too
I could see it by the look in your eyes

Sweeter than wine
Softer than a summer’s night
Everything I want, I have
Whenever I hold you tight

This magic moment,
While your lips are close to mine,
Will last forever,
Forever, ’til the end of time

So why won’t you dance with me?
Why won’t you dance with me?

This magic moment
So different and so new
Was like any other
Until I met you

And then it happened
It took me by suprise
I knew that you felt it too
I could see it by the look in your eyes

Sweeter than wine
Softer than a summer’s night
Everything I want, I have
Whenever I hold you tight

Volume IV signs deal with Ripple Music

July 11th, 2013 by admin

volume iv_3_21_13_15b

Very cool news:

RIPPLE MUSIC is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed, hard-hitting American heavy rockers, VOLUME IV to their ever-expanding roster!

VOLUME IV is a unit that unleashes their mighty sonic attack with aplomb and a nasty sneer on their faces. Full of grit and no-nonsense rock, VOLUME IV pummel their listeners to a bloody pulp with a fierce combination of heavy groove, dirty melodies and that all important riff. Individually the members of VOLUME IV have shared the stage with legendary acts such as MOTORHEAD, IRON MAIDEN, DANZIG, MASTODON, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and DOWN. Now, back in the studio, VOLUME IV is hard at work recording their RIPPLE MUSIC debut album, tentatively titled Long in the Tooth. Plowing the same massively heavy fields of 70?s/80?s classic hard rock that fueled their debut EP, VOLUME IV aim to build upon the crushing success of that first release and take their rocking brand of heaviness to a new level. And when the band describes themselves as “Loud Motherfuckers” you better bet that the new album will rock! Whatever title the new album takes, RIPPLE MUSIC is set to unleash the heaviness worldwide in 2014, as the band makes plans to tour and hopefully hit all the major heavy rock festivals.

VOLUME IV commented yesterday upon the new alliance; “Other than not signing us in the back of a limo over mounds of cocaine, we feel Ripple is one of the best labels going and we are proud to be part of the family!! It’s clear that these guys don’t compromise in terms of putting out creative music and are true believers of heavy rock. The variety of bands and the sheer quality of music they’ve released speaks for itself. We’re very honored that our music earned its place among their ranks!”

For the growing legions of Ripple fans, known as the Waveriders, VOLUME IV will be another must-hear addition to the ranks of bands that already include such heavy rockers as Mos Generator, Devil to Pay, Mothership, Trucker Diablo and Ape Machine. And you can bet that the combination of VOLUME IV and RIPPLE MUSIC will be a combustible mixture!

Iggy and the Stooges – Ready to Die

May 8th, 2013 by admin

readytodie_cover

Just got this new Iggy and the Stooges CD last week and I have had it in my truck since. At first I instantly liked “Gun” and “Job” but as I have listened to it over the last week the whole album has become my latest favorite from start to finish. Every song is awesome. Love the songs above but also can’t get “Beat that guy” out of my head.

Go to their website and sign up for newsletter and get a free download of a rare version of “I got a right”.

Recently Iggy gave an interview to NPR. Give it a listen. Here is an excerpt:

At this point, is it a point of pride that The Stooges won’t make money from the record?

“No, baby, here’s the way it works: We make an album; everybody complains for the first five years. And after about 10 years, people start saying, ‘Hey, you know, that’s pretty good.’ The money kicks in about 20 years later.

“In the mid-’90s, The Stooges and Fun House turned over into the black, and all the band members who survived started getting checks. And then a little later, the same happened to Raw Power. Little by little, that old band has defeated a lot of our shag-haired, frilly-vest-wearing crapola, corporate rock gods and goddesses of the ’60s and ’70s. The problem now, of course, is do I have 30 years to wait for royalties for this record? [Laughs.] See, because I’m 66. I think people need to hurry up and buy a record.”

Got to love this photo that was posted on facebook recently.

Zach Green plays the Red Light Cafe Shootout

April 25th, 2013 by admin

zachredlight_resize

Zach played four songs last night at the Red Light Cafe in Atlanta last night. His voice and lyrics were complimented by many in the Cafe with extra kudos coming from the bartender who said she really liked his words. Each artist was given 15 minutes to perform as part of the “Open for a big shot Shootout – Hosted by Kahle Davis. Zach had 6 minutes to spare after his first three songs and wowed the crowd with “The Trip” as his finale.

While Zach did not win round one of the shootout he plans to return next week with some new songs for another chance.

Zach Green Reigns Supreme with “The Trip”

April 16th, 2013 by admin

Zach Green played the open mic night at Smith’s Olde Bar last night and once again ruled the stage with his incredible tone. The guitar did not come through all the way during his performance but it wasn’t missed because Zach’s voice is an instrument all its own. The crowd loved it and many said they look forward to more of his voice commenting how great his deep tone is. The song he played was “The Trip” written last weekend. We look forward to many more performances from Zach. For now here is a video of last nights performance.

Zach Green Debuts at Smith’s Olde Bar

April 9th, 2013 by admin

All my life I have tried to put myself as close as possible to cool people and cool music. I’ve seen a lot of bands, made lots of friends and kept myself in the ‘cool’ loop of music all along the way. Life is a trip people, and the trip has put me into a whole new realm of being close to ‘cool’ music.

Zach Green, a friend, a part of my family, and  one cool dude made his singing debut last night at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta. Though I sadly missed the event, I am happy to show and share with you his unique voice and talent here on MusicFilter. He has a tone that I have not heard in some time and really can’t even think of someone to compare it to. The tonal quality that comes through when he sings is felt in the gut and soul.

Unique and original, yes I said original, Zach has only just begun his musical journey and I am proud and happy to be a part of it.  Take a listen to Zach’s original song “I don’t care” and keep on the look out for upcoming appearances and more songs. If you would like to book Zach at your event or venue contact me here at MusicFilter for details.

Volume IV – Rockin’ Hard in Marietta

March 25th, 2013 by admin

volume iv_3_21_13_15b

Few bands today come across with any purpose. Volume IV come at you with the purpose of kicking your senses into oblivion with heart pounding vibes and styling that will affect you during and after. This three piece from Atlanta drives their point across loud and clear.

Joe Carpenter plays guitar and sings with a guttural stomp that will leave your mind a bloody mess. Blake Parris plays the bass and sings as well. His bass lines are thunderous to say the least. On drums is Troy King. He keeps it all moving forward with smashes and crashes that you will feel and hear in your head the day after a show. I don’t know much about the guys in the band except for Blake who is a long time friend. I am so glad I made it out to see these guys play. Thanks to Blake for turning me on to them. Volume IV are as fun to watch as they are to hear.

I went with a friend to see Volume IV play a show in Marietta GA of all places and they exceeded my expectations. Every song increased with intensity. These guys have it down. I can’t wait to hear what they are writing for their new record out soon. Look for a review of it on MusicFilter when it arrives.

These three guys who make up Volume IV, are doing something. Doing something that the metal scene needs and has longed for. Simple, hard, pounding metal from guys who not only look the part, they live the part. (My girlfriend said Blake needs to trim his beard but I say it’s perfect man, don’t change a thing.)

(retraction: I must retract the statement about your beard Blake, I got in big trouble because someone was afraid that what I said she said would hurt your feelings. So, in order for my woman to not be mad at me, I retract that anyone said you needed to trim your beard, even though I know she said it cause she loves your “sweet face” so much)

It is easy to lump them into the genre of metal but they are much more than that. Think Heavy/Sludge/Drudge/Fucking METAL that has a listenability that few metal bands of this heaviness and genre can claim.

Check out the MusicFilter Volume IV page for links, photos, videos and more.

I want more.
